Oil Painting Workshop - Old Master’s Style Floral

3-Day Workshop February 15, 22 and March 1 2026

Learn to paint in the style of the Old Masters (Rembrandt, Vermeer) 

Prerequisite - Basic Drawing Skills

This workshop is for those who wish to learn to paint with oils in the style of the Old Masters.  This is a perfect introduction to the world of oil painting because it covers basic techniques and mediums that can be applied to other styles. It will be taught over three sessions, allowing time for each layer to dry between sessions.

No previous painting experience is required, just basic drawing skills.

Week 1 (February 15, 2026) - Subtractive Underpainting

You will learn how to prepare a canvas with a layer of paint, then subtract your image. This is easier than it sounds, but why good drawing skills are essential.

Week 2 (February 22, 2026) - Glazing

You will apply your first layer of color to your painting using transparent paints. This is a quick process, allowing us time to discuss various mediums you can mix into your paint to speed up the drying process. We will also explore ways of using color to add depth to your paintings.

Week 3 (March1, 2026) - Opaque Layer

This week you will finish your paintings with opaque paints, adding details and texture.

The price of the workshop includes a 9"x12" gallery-wrapped canvas, professional grade paints and mediums. Brushes and disposable palettes will be available for use. If you have oil brushes, you may bring them, but it is not recommended to use the same brushes for oil and acrylic paints. Oil painting brush sets will also be available for purchase. 

This workshop is limited to 12 attendees.
